PJ Party meet Pig Skin Tail Gater!!
There are new rules coming to the CFL and we have a few more ideas of our own…!
What’s Changing in the CFL
-
Field shape & length: By 2027, goalposts are being moved to the back of the end zone. End zones will shrink from 20 yards to 15, and the total field length goes from 110 to 100 yards — though the width stays 65 yards. CFL+2CFWE North+2

Rouge modifications: Starting 2026, some “single‐point” situations go away. For example, a missed field goal that sails wide of the posts or a punt/kickoff that goes out the back of the end zone without being touched — no point. But if a returner takes a knee or is tackled in the end zone, the single still counts. CFWE North+1

Game‑flow and safety changes: A 35‑second play clock that starts automatically once the prior play ends is being introduced. Also, team benches will be required to be on opposite sides of the field so players don’t have to sprint across the field for substitutions. And some penalties are being tweaked: roughing‑the‑passer, low hits, etc., for safety. CFWE North+2TSN+2
Some players, like B.C. Lions QB Nathan Rourke, aren’t thrilled — calling some changes “garbage,” especially when they seem to edge toward making the CFL more like the NFL. There’s a tension: how do you “modernize” without losing what makes Canadian football unique?
