Victoria to Celebrate Navratri 2025 Dance and Music with the Community at Large
The Gujarati Society of Victoria (GSOV), a not-for-profit organization, invites the community at large to join in the celebration of Navratri 2025, a colorful festival of Indian folk dance, music, and culture. The event features the traditional dances of Garba and Dandia (Stick dance).
Navratri is a Sanskrit word means nine nights, a major Hindu festival that is celebrated worldwide and is dedicated to the feminine power. The festival celebrates the feminine powers, especially the many forms of Goddess Durga and her absolute victories of good over evil.
The Navratri 2025 event will take place on September 28, October 4 and October 5, at Saanich Commonwealth Place. This highly anticipated festival will welcome over 1,000 diverse attendees who will, as in previous years, experience the energy and joy of a fully interactive dance event.
It's the perfect mix of culture, celebration, and togetherness. All guests, regardless of age, toddlers included, are encouraged to join in these easy dances, explore the rhythms, and celebrate these age-old traditions that bring people closer through mesmerizing movement and joyful music. With vibrant dance steps, engaging activities, and a welcoming atmosphere, this event offers something for everyone, from seasoned dancers to first-time participants.
Please note that we generally had sold out events in previous years and it is recommended that you purchase your tickets to ensure admission to these event nights.
Event highlights of each evening (Details):
· Garba and Dandia (Stick Dance)
· Complimentary light vegetarian meal will be provided by GSOV to all attendees (from Sizzling Tandoor!)
· Open to all ages, including babies, students, seniors, and community members at large

My Time at Coastal Community
Returning to Coastal Community nearly nine years ago was one of the best decisions I’ve made. My name is Julie Fedje, and I’m a Business Credit Analyst at the Nanaimo Business Centre.
I’ve had the privilege of supporting local businesses and working closely with our members to help them reach their goals. What makes my time here truly special is the incredible team I get to work with every day. Coastal Community fosters a culture of collaboration and community impact, and I’m proud to be part of an organization that values both. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to grow—and I’m grateful to contribute to something that makes a real difference.
Please tell us about the organization you volunteer with and what you do and why this organization is important to you.
Most recently, I volunteered with Coastal’s Sunset Cinema Series in July—helped with concession payments in Parksville. Volunteering in Parksville was such a fun experience—great energy, great people, and a fantastic cause! Huge thanks to the organizers for making everything run so smoothly. I’ll definitely be signing up again next year! Proud to support fun, family nights & raise funds for the Children’s Health Foundation.
Why is volunteering important to you?
Volunteering lets me give back to the community and support causes I care about. It’s a meaningful way to connect, contribute, and make a difference beyond my day-to-day work.
Which organization are you directing your winning funds to and why?
I’m directing my winning funds to Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organization that holds a special place in my heart. When my son was just three years old and needed surgery at The Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, Ronald McDonald House gave our family a place to stay close by—allowing us to be near him during a very difficult time. Their support helped make our journey a little easier, and I’m grateful to pay that forward.
I also feel a personal connection through my sister-in-law, who works at The Children’s Hospital, and has shown me just how important these services are for families facing medical challenges.

We thank Return-It for providing a platform where we can engage groups, family & friends across Greater Victoria all year, to turn trash into treasure as we raise funds to sponsor children in "The Greatest Journey" classes after they receive a shoebox gift. By the end of August, we reached 76% of our goal to sponsor 875 children. Will you help us sponsor 211 more children before December? Just drop off your beverage refundables at a Return-It Depot on Glanford, Quadra or Queens .. or in Sooke or Esquimalt, and tell them you want to donate your refund to Operation Christmas Child - Greater Victoria. THANK YOU for your amazing support!

Mid Island is proud to support Nanaimo Foodshare as they work to address food insecurity and create opportunities for skill-building within the Mid Island area. The charity organization offers an array of programs and workshops for youth and adults, from cooking classes to mentorship and socialization opportunities. Nanaimo Foodshare also provides volunteer opportunities for community members to get involved in numerous ways, including helping harvest local farms and gardens. Increasing confidence around food and nutrition and offering opportunities to engage with like-minded community members is a cause we’re happy to support.
