The Victoria Royals scored three times in the first period to help pace them to a 6-4 victory over the Silvertips in Everett Friday night.
“We capitalized on our chances. You score six goals, you should win most nights – and we did just that.” – Assistant Coach Morgan Klimchuk.
Victoria led 3-0 after 20 minutes, and 4-2 after 40 before the clubs exchanged goals in the third.
The hot start showed how far it can go towards being on the winning end at the end of the night.
“Great start and we just built off that, kept it rolling.”
Royals forward Teague Patton led the way with two goals and an assist, including a highlight reel goal in the third to restore the three goal lead.
“Not often you see a guy wind up a slapshot coming down main street, great shot. And then a great individual effort on the second goal…overall he played a great game, he’s always dangerous when he’s going – and we saw just that.”
Former Silvertips netminder Braden Holt made 26 saves to defeat his former club in his first return to Everett.
“It’s a special night for him, he made some fantastic stops, definitely held us in there – that was great.”
At the other end, the goaltender he was traded for, Tyler Palmer was chased from the net after allowing 3 goals on 7 shots in under 10 minutes.
“We made it difficult for him, we had bodies to the net, guys were making plays and getting pucks through. Anytime you chase a goalie it’s a little bump for the group…”
Tim Metzger came in relief stopping 22 of 25 in the defeat.
The Royals also got goals from Nate Misskey who added an assist, Tanner Scott, Teydon Trembecky, and Alex Thacker, Defenseman Austin Zemlak added two apples.
Silvertips forward Jackson Berezowski had a four point night including the hat trick, while linemate Ralph Pelletier also had four points with a goal and three assists. Nanaimo’s Jesse Heslop chipped in with a trio of helpers, as the trio combined for 11 points, and were in on every goal.
“Dangerous line there…three of their goals came on the power play, so we’ll clean some of that stuff up special teams wise…and get a little bit better match up at home in terms of lines playing against them.”
Everett won the special teams game, capitalizing on 3 of their 5 chances, while Victoria went 0 for 1.
Both clubs were depleted due to injuries. The Royals were missing 5 regulars, while the Silvertips were missing 7.
Everett now leads the season series 2-1, with the final game of the regular season Saturday at 6pm in the rubber match in Victoria.
