Royals Lose 5-3 To Cougars, Settle For Split
Saturday the Royals snapped a 3 game skid with a 5-1 victory. Dante Hannoun and Igor Martynov both scored twice, as the club built up a 4-0 first period lead en route to the win.
Sunday afternoon, the Cougars led 4-0 in the middle frame and then rode out a 5-3 win to snap their 4 game losing streak.

Tarun Fizer (3rd), Dante Hannoun (10th) and Matthew Smith scored for Victoria.
The Royals out shot the Cougars 13-1 in the 3rd period but only came up with a single goal.

16 year old rookie netminder Brock Gould was the between the pipes both nights for the Royals in the absence of Griffen Outhouse. He stopped 18 of 19 Saturday, and 19 of 24 Sunday.
Taylor Gauthier played net for the Cougars both games as well, 21 for 26 Saturday, and 21 for 24 Sunday.
Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored twice, including the Un-Teddy Bear Toss goal in the first period. Josh Maser and Ilijah Colina had 3 point nights with a goal and two assists each. Rhett Rhinehart added a goal and a helper.
Victoria scored 3 power play goals in the two games, all by Dante Hannoun.

Sunday the Royals were 1 for 3 with the man advantage while the Cougars went 1 for 4.
Victoria leads the season series 3-1, and will meet again on the Island December 14th.
It was Prince George’s final home game until January 11th, and will play their next 11 straight on the road.
The Royals remain tied for 2nd in the BC Division with the Rockets, but have 6 in hand. The Cougars are now 1 back, and the Blazers 2.
Victoria is now 1-1 on their 5 game in 8 night BC Division road trip, and will visit Kamloops on Wednesday.
Consistent Success: Royals’ forward Dante Hannoun recorded one goal in this afternoon’s game, which gave him three tallies in this weekend’s series against Prince George. Dating back to last season, Hannoun he has recorded 11 points (4g-7a) in his last nine games against the Cougars.
Stingy Second: In today’s game against the Cougars, Victoria allowed only one shot on net in the third period. This is the fewest shots that the Royals have surrendered in a period this season. This breaks the previous total, which was set on October 17th versus Swift Current, where they allowed three shots against in the third period.
Streak Snapped: This afternoon’s loss marked the first time the Royals have been defeated by Prince George in their last seven contests. Dating back to last season, this is the first regulation loss versus the Cougars since December 27, 2017. Victoria currently holds a record of 3-1-0-0 against Prince George this year and have outscored them 15-8 in those four games.
Brock Assists: With a primary assist on Dante Hannoun’s powerplay goal in this afternoon’s contest, Royals’ goaltender Brock Gould recorded his first career WHL point.
