Meet the newest Royal: Brandon Cutler
The Red Deer Rebels and Victoria Royals made a swap back on Tuesday morning, sending 18-year old forward Brandon Cutler to Vancouver Island.
Also headed to the Royals in the deal is a second round selection in the 2019 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
In return, the Rebels received unsigned 16-year-old prospect Dallon Melin and a fifth-round selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
Cutler is a solid depth add to the Royals’ forward group. The 6-foot-0, 165-pound product of Spruce Grove, Alta. was originally selected in the ninth round, 192nd overall, by the Rebels in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. In 106 games with the Rebels over the past two seasons, Cutler had tallied 14 points (7G-7A) and 97 penalty minutes with one game-winning goal.
I spoke with Cutler about the trade and what he brings to the table:
The Royals’ pre-season continues Friday, September 7 (7:00 p.m. PT) when they take on the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre. The Rebels will continue pre-season play Saturday, September 8 (7:00 p.m. MT) when they play host to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
