Royals Edge Blazers 6-5 Friday
The Royals 3 times held 2 goal leads, but the Blazers would not go gently into the night.
Tanner Kaspick made is Victoria debut with a goal and an assist, scoring into an empty net to go up 6-4 in the third, but Jermaine Loewen’s 2nd of the night in the final minute made for a close finish.
Vegas Golden Knights signed prospect Dylan Ferguson was named 3rd star after making 40 saves, while Griffen Outhouse turned aside 23 for his 22nd victory of the season – 4th most in the league.
The Royals led 3-1 after 20 minutes on a pair of quick goals by Dante Hannoun, Loewen for the Blazers and Victoria’s Igor Martynov – his first game back from representing Belarus at the World Juniors Tournament in Buffalo.
Victoria had out shot Kamloops 23-4 after 20 minutes, and had it not been for Lantzville’s Ferguson, the score could’ve been much higher.
Ferguson’s efforts sparked the Blazers who notched the only two goals of the middle frame to draw even at 3-3.
Royals Mitchell Prowse and Jeff Dewit struck early in the third to retake the 2 goal cushion before Luc Smith struck with the man advantage to draw the Blazers to within one, 5-4, before the dramatic closing.
Dewit also had a 2 point night with a goal and assist, and Matthew Phillips notched 2 helpers.

Loewen had a 3 point night with 2 goals and an assist for Kamloops. Smith ended with a goal and an assist.
With an assist, Tyler Soy set the franchise record for most helpers at 152, passing Brandon Magee.
Both clubs scored twice on the power play.
19 year old forward Lane Zablocki also made his Royals debut, however left midway through the first after being assessed a 5 minute major for a check from behind and a game misconduct after a hit on Jackson Shepard who stayed in the game.
Victoria now leads the season series 5-1, and sit 3rd in the BC Division – 2 back of idle Vancouver, and 5 back of Kelowna who beat Seattle.
Kamloops is 7 points out of the final Wild Card spot.
The two clubs meet again Saturday night on the Island.

Red Hot – Royals’ forward Tyler Soy extended his point streak as he has tallied in 13 consecutive contests and has registered 20 points (8g-12a) during that span. Matthew Phillips (2g-6a) and Chaz Reddekopp (2g-4a) have both earned points in their last four games. Meanwhile, Jared Freadrich (1g-2a) has recorded points in his previous three contests.
