Jared Freadrich scored the game winner with a minute left, as the visiting Victoria Royals blanked the Spokane Chiefs 1-0 Friday night.
Griffen Outhouse posted his 9th career shutout, making 19 saves as the Royals snapped a 2 game skid. Outhouse is one off the franchise record held by Lucas Gore’s 10 shut outs.
“I thought it was a mature response from the team,” said Royals Head Coach Dan Price.
“It clearly felt like a playoff game for both teams, I felt the (Royals) really stuck with it and found a way to win it in the end.”
Victoria outshot Spokane 24-19 in a tightly contested physical match up.
“I thought that was a good example of team defense, both 5 on 5 and the penalty kill.” Said Price on holding the opposition to under 20 shots.
The Royals took over in the third, led by the tenacious play of Dante Hannoun, out shooting the Chiefs 15-6 in the final frame.
“That’s a great reflection of the veteran players on the team and the leadership group.” Added Price.
Victoria evened the season series at 1-1, after falling 8-6 in Spokane October 13th.
Neither club was able to convert on the man advantage, with the Royals going 0-4, and the Chiefs 0-3.
Regan Nagy collected an assist playing in his 250th career game.
Up next Victoria plays in Tri City Saturday.
