Dmytriw’s Pair Leads Royals Past Giants 3-1 Saturday
Jared Dmytriw scored twice to lead the Victoria Royals past the visiting Vancouver Giants 3-1 Saturday night, in front of a sell-out crowd on Pink in the Rink night.
The Royals led 2-0 after 20 minutes and 3-1 after 40, with Matthew Phillips assisting on all 3 goals.
Victoria earns back to back wins against Vancouver after a 6-4 score in Langley one night earlier. The triple header concludes Sunday night in Victoria at 7pm.
The Royals hold the first Wild Card spot in the West, 5 up on the Winterhawks, and move to within 4 points of 3rd place in the BC Division, held by the Rockets.
Vladimir Bobylev opened the scoring 90 seconds into the first, to get the home team off to quick start. Dmytriw banged in a rebound to put the club up 2-0, and then added his second of the night with a laser, top corner to give Victoria a 3-0 lead in the middle frame.
Calvin Spencer struck on the power play for Vancouver in the second but it would be as close as they’d come.
Royals netminder Griffen Outhouse stopped 31 of 32 for his 32nd win of the season, tying the franchise record for victories in a single season held by Coleman Vollrath a season ago.
Ryan Tendeck allowed 3 goals on 23 shots in the loss.
Victoria went 0 for 2 on the power play, while Vancouver was 1 for 3.
The Royals have won 6 straight against the Giants and 7 of 8 in the season series.
Victoria was without the injured Tyler Soy (week to week), as well as Ryan Peckford (5-6 weeks) and defenseman Chaz Reddekopp (5-6 weeks).
