[Fight 4 The Cause]: Rolling with the…punches
We’re almost exactly two weeks away from fight night and the last week and a bit has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster.
Up until the middle of last week, I knew who my opponent was and was getting ready to fight another southpaw. But then last Wednesday, I spoke to my (then) opponent, Kenny “Speedyshoes” Husband and he told me that he was no longer able to continue due to an injury. Long-story short, he felt off after a training session early last week and went to get checked out by a doctor (which was probably the best decision. The doc found a subdural hematoma (bleeding around the brain) and immediately recommended he take it easy and avoid contact sports until he heals up. While I’m sad he and I won’t get to go toe-to-toe in the ring (which is something he and I had been looking forward to since the summertime), I’m glad he’s going to be okay. And what I’m even more stoked about is that he’ll be joining me on my walk to the ring and in my corner!
It only took a few days but I got myself a new opponent.
Overall, training has been going great. It’s incredibly tough, tiresome and painful at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I’ve got a great team that’s incredibly dedicated and hard-working. You’d even often find us at Studio 4 on our days off, working together, building our cardio, etc. We have a little over two weeks left to the fight but as Muhammad Ali once said, “Don’t count the days. Make the days count.”
Finally, I’ll leave you with a small sample of what our entrance videos are going to look like. They’re all being produced by Jesse Hlady Studios with direction and drone work done done by Lee and Ria Milliken. I’m super excited that I was able to include my family in my video. They have been incredibly supportive of me during training camp – even though I seem to be spending more time at the gym than I do at home!
Tickets are still available if you’d like to catch Jenny and I in the ring on Fight Night! The event takes place on Saturday, November 26th in the Carson Hall of the Victoria Conference Centre. Click here for ticket details! –Boitano
