Royals Fall 5-2 To Blazers Saturday
The Victoria Royals settled for a split against the visiting Kamloops Blazers over the weekend after a 5-2 loss Saturday.
“They came in and played a good road game. We didn’t play well enough to win tonight.” Said Head Coach Dave Lowry who’s club won 1-0 one night earlier.
Victoria overcame a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at two in the middle frame before Kamloops restored the two goal lead heading into the third. The Blazers put it out of reach with a single in the final frame.
“We need some of our older guys…and I put every player that played on this team from last year, we need more from them – that’s it.” commented Lowry.
Victoria was outshot 29-23, with Griffen Outhouse taking the loss, and Connor Ingram earning the win.
The Royals ended 0 for 6 with the man advantage, while their penalty kill remained perfect on the season 17 for 17, stopping both Blazer man advantages.
Tyler Soy scored and Blake Barger an acquisition from Moose Jaw, notched his first with Victoria.
Kamloops got contributions from 5 different players. Quinn Benjafield and Nick Chyzowski scored a minute apart in the first, Devin Sideroff and Matt Revel in the second, and Jermaine Loewen in the third.
“We were too loose in our own end. They skated, we watched…” said Lowry,
“If we’re going to have success, we have to check out of our end and create our chances that way.”
Kamloops Captain Collin Shirley added 3 assists, Chyzowski and Revel ended with a goal and an assist each.
It was the debut of 20 year old Victoria forward Carter Folk who added his physicality, while showcasing his speed on a line with Dante Hannoun and Matthew Phillips.
Victoria was still without defenseman Chaz Reddekopp at Los Angeles main camp.
The Royals wrapped up their 4 game homestand with a 1-3 record, and now head out on a 6 game in 10 night road trip beginning in Langley against the Giants Wednesday
