In Victoria on Canada Day? Do What Bryan Boitano Would Do!
If you’re sticking around Victoria on Friday, July 1st, there is no reason for you to be bored as Downtown Victoria offers a TON of choices. And when in doubt, feel free to follow my dumbass around town!
The Zone’s 5 O’Clock Mixtape will unfortunately not be happening this Friday, but you’ll still have a few opportunities to catch me in the mix. SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!!
Here are a few places where you can hear/watch me spin some tunes this Friday:At 4:30PM, you can catch me playing at one of my favourite places to spin, The Rooftop Surfclub of the Strathcona Hotel. I’m one of the many DJs part of the Canada Day Hullabaloo. You can head upstairs for lunch at about 12:30pm to catch my friend, Speedyshoes. I’ll take over the decks at 4:30pm and then Ashley Yee will finish out the night at 8:30pm.
Following my set at the Strath, you could stay (to check out Ashley and some of the other wickedly talented DJs they’ve got spinning in the FOUR OTHER ROOMS you have to choose from) or head down to the Inner Harbour area and pick out a good spot to watch the Victoria Celebrates Canada Day Fireworks show! If you’re not watching near the main stage of the Legislature Lawn, be sure to bring a radio with you and tune it to The Zone @ 91-3 for the official soundtrack, produced by yours truly! I’ve had the honour of producing the official soundtrack mix for the past few years and it’s been equally as fun putting it together this year!
This year’s mix will include music from:
Metric • Jon & Roy • A Tribe Called Red • Prince • David Bowie • Arcade Fire and more!
Stuff starts blowing up at 10:20PM! Here’s one of the mixes from a few years ago:
Finally, I’ll be ending off the night at Sugar Nightclub for the FIRST Annual CanCon Bang-On (presented by our friends at Do250 and the producers of Canada Day’s Downtown festivities, Atomique Productions).
The event starts at 10PM and is FREE for those who RSVP. Right around midnight, I’ll hop on the decks and spin an ALL CANADIAN set featuring some of your favourite Canadian artists!
And that’s what…um, I…would do! Hope to see you oot and aboot. And if not, have a safe, relaxing and fun long weekend! —Boitano
