Jade's World & Ridiculous NYC laws
Tried to wish my dad a Happy Father’s Day…but you know life is filled with awkward oops.
But hey, it’s been awhile since I’ve had a ‘Jade’s World’ which are essentially just awkward moments in my daily life.
We all experience those times! ..right?
New York City’s known for many things; it’s home to the Empire State Building, Times Square, Statue of Liberty and other iconic sites. It’s also known for quite a few fairly RIDICULOUS laws!
1 – It’s illegal to throw a ball at someone’s face for fun
A person is guilty of “offensive exhibition” if they operate a public event where a person is “voluntarily submitting to indignities such as the throwing of balls … at their head or body.”
2 – Flirting can land you a $25 fine
Now of course they don’t just hand these fines out everywhere in NYC for flirting. The origin and purpose of this fine was said to be code for soliciting or prostitution.
3 – A license must be purchased before hanging clothes on a clothesline
While NYC police don’t enforce this it is technically still a law. Many other states are currently revoking this law because of the eco-friendly benefits of air drying clothes.
AND this one is my favourite
4 – You may not walk around on Sundays with an ice cream cone in your pocket
No one seems to know where this law comes from, but CraveOnline.com notes there were once blue laws against eating ice cream on Sundays. So theoretically, sweet-toothed outlaws would pocket their vanilla cones to hide them from passing policemen.
