The KRAKEN!
Dear Internet,
i thought of a great idea! By which i mean, i read a tweet by Neil Hamburger, thought it was awesome, and then talked about that on the radio. It's about Tattoo Removals

aw sweet. lasers.

Tuesday:
Conway Twitty - Want To In Your Eyes
Today while i was filling in for Jeremy Baker (who is back tomorrow, no worries!) it came up that the song "The Other Man" by Sloan and the predicament it describes reminds me of the song that i would eventually play for tonight's Pirate Pick! Sure, i first heard about it on Family Guy, and probably so did you, but to tell you the truth, the song has totally ear wormed it's way into my heart. I really REALLY hope Sopranos has it on it's list of karaoke songs... i think i could match Twitty's moves pretty well...
Wednesday
Kaboom Atomic - Put It In My Face
Kaboom is as close to a front man as the Vancouver band The Heard has got. He's also a HELLUVA MC all by himself. Unfortunately not a whole lot of his stuff exists on YouTube, or any other easily embeddable player, so do please be a dear and check out his MySpace
Dear Internet,
Today on a very special episode of Ask P, i was joined by an old friend...

Monday:
Brave Combo feat. Tiny Tim - Stairway to Heaven
Devon suggested this one, and what a find it is!! Brave Combo are a pretty interesting band from Texas who do both original songs and covers of Classic Rock gems, all the in the style of mostly polka, but also rumba, cha-cha-cha, choro, samba, two-step, cumbia, charanga, merengue, etc. According to their Wikipedia, they've been a "prominant fixture" of the Texas music scene for 25 years. I can see why, hell if i were going down to the "everything's bigger" state, i'd want to polka it up to them as well!!
the feat. part of the Pirate Pick is Tiny Tim. You know about Tiny Tim right? No? Read up on him, sailor. Good times.
Tuesday:
Easy Star All Stars - Everybody Wants to Be a Cat
Imagine a band that does reggae covers of ENTIRE albums. And the best albums of all time too, so like Sgt. Peppers by the Beatles, Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, and OK Computer by Radiohead. You've just imagined Easy Star All Stars. They're coming to Victoria to play at Club9ONE9 on the first of September if yer interested...!
Here now is their cover of Everybody Wants to Be a Cat from the Aristocats... yeaup... the Disney movie about cats... Enjoy!
Wednesday
The Guggenheim Grotto - Wisdom
Our boss John totally passed this one along to me as he is subscribed to a bunch of neat music services and online magazines and whatnot. In fact, often as i saunter down the hall (i have a serious saunter, it's almost a lope) i often hear it drifting out of his office. The band itself is really neat, it's just two irish guys (and a couple of black dressed ladies as they can find them) More about them is on their MySpace and even further reading is on their Wikipedia. As far as YouTube goes, the only versions i could find of the song i played on the Pirate Pick were live, but i think this one in particular is pretty neat (especially for the intro, referenced earlier in this VERY POST!!)
Friday
Infant Sorrow - The Clap
Funny story; Jeremy comes in to do the Zone Afternoon Show today as i am wrapping up the Midday Zone and recording the Pirate Pick. Up on our shared work computer was only one window containing only one tab and verily i tell you, it was indeed a Google search of "the clap". i'm sure he thinks all mannor of terrible things about me and a loose and unclean life style. Anyway, one of my favourite songs over this past and glorious summer has been from the Get Him To The Greek Soundtrack, and that has been The Clap. It's from a great scene in the movie where... well, you already know, you've seen it, right? Well if you haven't, and you like to laugh, SEE IT!! Chef Recommends!! Super funny for everyone! (not children or the elderly)
Dear Internet,
it's summer, it's hot, you GOT to sweat.

"ugh, it's so hot today"
i love getting a good sweat going. It's good for you. Everybody sweats, even this hot babe:

i like yer hat!
shut up and listen to this poor guy stuck in traffic on the Malahat in 30 degree heat! THE WORST!!
Sorry for telling you to shut up.
Love, Pol
