All I want to do when I see a puppy is bombard it with squishes, but according to studies, it causes them stress and unhappiness. I am pretty sad about this.

An animal psychologist named Dr. Stanley Coren from UBC, conducted a study where he analysed photos of owners embracing their dogs and found that 81.6% of the dogs in the photos had signs of discomfort. Common stress signs are: folding ears, squinted eyes or closed eyes, turning head to avoid eye contact, licking lips, yawning, or raising one paw. So, if you see your pup do any of those gestures while you are giving them a good’ ol bear hug, maybe try giving them a nice pat and a treat instead.
