You know what technology I miss? Dual tape deck players. When I was about 11 or 12, my favourite thing in the world was to make mixtapes. I first started doing it because I found it really annoying to be listening to my Sony Walkman and having to unclip it from my belt anytime I wanted to swap out my Coolio tape with my Bone Thugs-N-Harmony tape. Fast-forward about 16 years later and here I am doing the same old thing with newer technology (and less Cross-Colour brand clothing).
I love making mixes for myself and friends and putting all my favorite tracks together. And so the Modern Rock Mixtape was born.
This is a mix of some of my favorite songs and remixes I've come across. Songs that have made it difficult for me to sit still.
Now, do I consider myself the best DJ in Victoria?? Not...even...close. But, I do know my way around a couple record players and a mixer. Thus, these tools have enabled me to present you with some of my favorite modern rock tracks.
And, it's all brought to you by Lucky Bar - Everything happens at Lucky Bar.
Warning: The following audio stream may contain tracks that will cause you to shake what your mother gave you. Listener discretion is advised.
Happy New Year everyone! Let me be the first to say, if you managed to tune in to The Zone on New Years Eve to listen to my very first live on-air mix, thank you SO very much for your support! And I hope it helped rock your New Years party. If you didn't and were out somewhere, firstly, I hope you had a safe and fun time. Secondly, I've pulled the entire mix and countdown from our digital logger and posted it below for your listening pleasure (terribly sorry about the poor audio quality).
This year, I can sense some growth in the Modern Rock Mixtape. I had no clue it would be as popular as it has turned out to be - and this could just be me in my little shell of a world noticing this. But the Mixtape started out as a rinky-dink side project I wanted to take on last year. I didn't think many people would listen or even respond to any mixes that I posted. But I get e-mails on a weekly basis from people who either wanted to compliment the mixes or suggest songs I should put in future mixes and that's meant so much to me.
2011 also brought me a TON of opportunities including the opportunity to open for artists such as AWOLNATION, K-OS, Mickey Avalon and Bedouin Soundclash. I also can NOT get over the fact that I got to play a show at Rifflandia with my good friend Jeremy Baker.
So let's get 2012 started off right, shall we? Below you'll find a brand new hour-and-fifteen-minute-long mix. I filled the mix with some gems I've found throughout the year. Yes, you'll definitely hear tracks I used in previous episodes and a few tracks that are definitely NOT modern rock. I figured I'd throw those in just to mix things up as I'm a pretty eclectic dude and love all types of music.
**For a very short period of time I'm making this entire mix downloadable. So take advantage of this while you can!**
Enjoy and 1000 times thank you for all your love and support of not just the Modern Rock Mixtape, but of what we do here at The Zone in general! Have a great 2012!
