Statistics Canada has found that people of colour are generally more likely to earn a university degree than their white counterparts, but less likely to find a job that pays as well. The findings published today are based on data from the 2021 and 2016 censuses. It shows that two years after graduating, people of colour reported lower employment earnings and lower rates of unionization and pension plan coverage. Annual employment income for racialized Canadians averaged $45,700 for women and $51,600 for men. Both of those are over $2,000 lower than their white counterparts.
