Congratulations to May’s Teacher of the Month: Lesley Mill from Cordova Bay Elementary School.

Although Sage is no longer in Ms Mill’s class, she is still definitely by far her favorite teacher ever! She says that Ms. Mill creates fun class projects and is very hilarious and kind.

Sage says “One time Ms. Mill bought timbits for our class and she did not bring enough. The next day she brought more for the kids who did not get some.

Ms.Mill and I still email, and send each other virtual timbits. My little sister is now in her class and is loving her! Ms.Mill was just in a car accident and she still took the time to respond to my email.

She is very thoughtful and she supports and adjusts to each student’s needs. When I was in her class for 4/5th grade I could see her valuing and teaching all my different and crazy friends. Ms. Mill was also awesome with my type 1 diabetes. When I would have low blood sugar she allowed me to recover in Howard (her personal massive comfy office chair).

Overall she is just awesamazing in every way possible and should definitely win the Zone teacher of the month.”

Congratulations to April’s Teacher of the Month: Shane Pask from Cedar Hill Middle School.

Daisie says, “I was dreading grade 6 until I found out I was in Mr. Pask’s class. He helped me understand math and we get to do fun projects. In term one, we did a project on the government and got to choose what country. In term two we did speeches and once again got to choose what topic! Term three we are going to make rock candy in science! We also get to write children’s books for the grade 1 class! Mr. Pask is so nice! If you don’t understand something he is perfectly fine to re-explain everything! He is hilarious and we even got to teach him how to do the floss!”

Congratulations to March’s Teacher of the Month: Jacqueline Howey from Glenlyon Norfolk Middle School.

Isla says, “about 2 months ago my teacher Ms. Howey came up with a great idea! She said that she would talk to the school principal about our class seating arrangement. She presented her idea but the principal said no. Fortunately Ms. Howey persevered. Mr. Burnett, the principal eventually ‘saw the light.’ Two months later my teacher told us about all this cool stuff we were getting in our class. She was going to get yoga balls and bean bags, tall stools and wobbly stools. Now in our class we don’t have to sit at a regular desk. We call it flexible seating because it allows us to move around and not stay sitting in a desk. Its comfortable and cozy and cool. I chose Ms. Howey because she never gave up and now I can look forward to sitting in my class room.”

Congratulations to February’s Teacher of the Month: Maria Mulroney from Artemis Place Secondary.

Emily-Jayne tells us that her teacher/principal at Artemis Place Secondary   inspires, and nurtures many students daily.

The program at Artemis Place is for young moms, and students who can’t function in a public school setting. Emily-Jayne always struggled in school because of learning disabilities and general chaos in her life. When she started at Artemis, she was a scared and shy fifteen year old, with a terrible home situation. Maria, her principal and art teacher, helped her through so much. If it weren’t for Maria, she wouldn’t be graduating this year!

Emily-Jayne says “she is so bubbly and always making sure we’re all happy. She makes us feel like a family, and treats us as if we were her own kids.”

Despite the sometimes tough situations Maria never gives up on anyone.  If any teacher deserves this, it is one hundred thousand percent, Maria.

Congratulations to January’s Teacher of the Month: Matt Agbay from Camosun College.

Connor believes his economics instructor Matt Agbay, from Camosun College deserves to win January’s Teacher of the Month beyond the fact that he scores extremely high on RateMyProf, and has achieved the “chili pepper icon” he is the best teacher that he’s ever had.

Connor had a hard time in high school, failing the last class he took there. His first class at Camosun, however, was with Matt, and he ignited Connor’s interest in economics. Connor achieved an A+ because of Matt’s clear and well-structured teaching style. To add to his case, Matt is funny and relatable.

Two things that Connor found extremely impressive were: how Matt answered even the most hypothetical of questions with valid and well thought out answers, and how his lectures, materials, and power points were so comprehensive that he NEVER requires students to purchase a textbook.

Congratulations to December’s Teacher of the Month: Ross Demmings from Royal Bay Secondary.

Every day Lara comes to school she looks extremely forward to Mr. Demmings’ class, knowing that all of his students will be laughing.

Lara believes that if you are excited about learning something, you will learn better. She feels Mr. Demmings deserves more than anything to be recognized as the coolest and most inspirational teacher.

Congratulations to November’s Teacher of the Month: Thuy Nevado from Camosun College.

Christopher’s college biology teacher is small but mighty! No matter how much you don’t understand, or how hungover her students are, she will have special ways of explaining the theory. This may include her running around the class, slamming doors or throwing balls. Christopher says “She is slowly making me less dumb”.

Congratulations to October’s Teacher of the Month: Sandra Gabaglia from École Willows School.

While their new classroom was under construction, Mme Gabaglia has tried to make the best of it by taking Ella and her class on lots of field trips such as nature walks, visiting a bird sanctuary, getting a VIP tour of the legislature and watching a bird documentary at IMAX. Ella says that this has been stressful for Mme Gabaglia, but she has been an amazing teacher through all of it!

Congratulations to September’s Teacher of the Month: Mr. Bishop from Spencer Middle School.

To his mom, Chance describes his new teacher as, “your age, but super funny and cool!” Mr. Bishop and Chance connect over Calvin and Hobbes, Archie, Wayne’s World, and The Goonies, and it’s made Chance’s transition into middle school much easier!
