SUPPORT THE FORT! Help Assist the People of Fort McMurray

The Union Club of British Columbia’s Centennial Ballroom

A mandatory evacuation has forced Fort McMurray residents to leave their homes in search of safety - the largest fire-related evacuation in the province's history. To aid the Red Cross' efforts, the Union Club's Community Outreach Committee has planned a very special three course Fundraising Luncheon. For this event only, the general
public is invited to attend.

$75 per person, which will include a $50 donation directly to the Canadian Red Cross (tax receipts will be made available by the Red Cross). All funds raised will be matched by the
Government of Canada.

The funds raised on May 25 will contribute to relief for those affected in the form
of emergency food, clothing, shelter, personal services, and other necessities to help assist with recovery and resiliency.

Bluegrass fans from throughout Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland are heading to the community of Sooke this weekend to listen to some exceptionally talented musicians, and to take part in the many workshops offered.

The Sooke River Bluegrass Festival is a good way to kick off the camping season and enjoy some mighty fine scenery. 


The talent line up consists of outstanding local and touring musicians:
John Reischman & The Pine Siskins, Tom Terrell,
Twin Bandit, Wellesley Station, Garrett Tompson Band, Sarah Jane Scouten, Clover Point Drifters and the iverside Bluegrass Band!

So grab your favorite instrument when you are packing up your camping gear!  Late night fireside jams are welcome and encouraged.  Examples of this interactive music are: The Slow Pitch Jam, Open Stage, and the Big Top Square Dance on Saturday night with an old-time stringband and caller, Craig Marcuk. Old time square dances are taught on the spot, so no experience is necessary!

The festival is family friendly and tickets will be available at the Festival Grounds Gate during the festival dates.  This is also the best in town for a weekend long festival – with 3 days of music for only $50!

Aboriginal Cultural Festival

You will see more than 25 performers grace the main stage, celebrating the diverse traditional and modern cultures of Nations from across British Columbia.

 The three-day festival is open daily with a welcome from the host Nations, interpretive totem pole tours, and main stage performances. The full schedule is on the website. 

Returning to headline the festival performances will be three-time world champion hoop dancer Alex Wells who hails from the Lil’wat Nation and is welcomed as a guest of the Songhees Nation and Esquimalt Nation. In addition to the main stage performances the Aboriginal Cultural Festival will feature an Authentic Indigenous Arts Marketplace and an outdoor dining area where visitors can sample and purchase a wide variety of traditional and modern fare including West Coast clam chowder, fry-bread, and BBQ sockeye salmon

SPCA’s Cruisin’ For Change Car Rally

The Zone @ 91-3 is proud to support the SPCA’s Cruisin’ For Change Car Rally

Saturday, July 17th from 9am – 3pm starting in Victoria and ending in Duncan

From rods, exotic cars, to choppers and hogs; participants will be taking to the street in support of the BCSPCA’s mission to develop more humane communities.

The cruise will begin in Victoria and proceed to Duncan, ending up at the Chesterfield Sports Centre with a show and shine.

Admission will be available for anyone that wants to view the wheels on show, as well as enjoy the benefit concert by the Jason Buie Band and Dyspell.



    • Entry admission fees are:

      •  $40 for a single vehicle entry in the car rally (includes admission to after-rally event)

      • $10 for adults to attend the show and shine in Duncan

      • $5 for kids under 16 to attend the show and shine in Duncan





This event will raise funds to support the enforcement by the BCSPCA special provincial constables of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, humane education, outreach programs, and help offset costs for the care of the animals in our shelters.

The Society’s major new campaign is “Help End Homelessness”, to build an additional 360 apartments for people in the community who have no home.
Undesignated bequests to Cool Aid are directed to three priorities:
• 60% or more towards building more supportive housing apartments
• 30% or more towards the Cool Aid Endowment
• 10% or less to encourage others to make a bequest or legacy gift

The Sooke Country Market is on it's 21st season and is a rain or shine event that operates on Saturdays from 10 am until 2 pm right through into October.

Sooke region producers will unveil their fresh grown produce, plant starts, seeds and preserves, artisan bakers will tempt with delicious home baked breads, pastries and nourishing snacks. Fine artists and craftsmen enhance the festive market with body care products, unique handcrafted jewelry, knitted creations and unique west coast inspired art. Local performers the Chick Wagon Band will be playing from 11 am- 1 pm.

The Sooke Country Market allows consumers to have access to locally grown, farm fresh produce and this community-run market gives customers a unique opportunity to meet and get to know the people who grow and make their food.
