We were enamoured with this story today of Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, who has invested $42million in a 500 foot thermal powered 10,000 Year Clock in a mountain in Texas. It’s hands move once every hundred years and it does a cuckoo every thousand years. So why? What’s the point? It’s even a several hour drive from the nearest airport so it’s even a tough sell as a tourist atraction – is this a colossal waste of time and money? It’s sure no “launching your convertible into space blasting Bowie on the stereo”! Jeff says it’s a symbol for “long term thinking”. OK. We can get behind that.
So it got us thinking about other cool clocks. In the day in age of a clock being a throwaway couple of numbers included on every appliance in your home and car including the device you carry with you at all times day and night – do people still enjoy their standalone clocks? Is the appreciation of time pieces really dying?!
Answer; probably, yes.
But still, Zoners did still send in some neat pictures of their cool clocks.
Killian says “I carry a pocket watch lol.”
Justin writes “Built one from a wagon wheel.”
“Classic Canadiana clock. Goes well with our moose lamp and Bakelite phone.”
“Bob Marley clock didn’t even have numbers on it rasta time.”
Thanks for chiming in on this!
CLOCKS! THEY’RE COOL!!!
