Some really good girls and boys are set to compete at this year’s the Puppy Bowl XIV. Packed with more than 90 baby dogs from upwards of 48 rescues! There will be two teams, “Team Ruff” and “Team Fluff”. There is a brand new stadium, and the puppies will be competing for the Chewy.com “Lombarky” trophy and Bissel’s MVP (Most Valuable Puppy) award!
What’s even better then the opportunity to call something the “Lombarky”, the event promotes pet adoption: all the “players” are non-professionals from 48 shelters across the US. The event will feature rescue puppies from hurricane ravaged areas including Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas.
The Puppy Bowl kicked off in 2005 as a simple concept. “It was always a joke,” Margo Kent, executive producer for Puppy Bowl I told Rolling Stone. “How do you counter the Super Bowl? Let’s just put a box of puppies up there and call it a day.”
These furry footballers will be joined by Jokgu the piano-playing chicken, who will be pecking out the national anthem, plus baby barnyard animal cheerleaders and a rescue sloth referee. What more can you ask for?!
Personally, I’m a Barry fan. He looks like a heckin’ good boy.

Is your money on team Ruff or Team Fluff? Since Puppy Bowl introduced team-based competition in 2015, Team Fluff “has been suffering,” but it seems they may pull an upset against their arch rivals, Team Ruff, in 2018. Personally, I always go for the underdogs. So it looks like I’ll be cheering on Team Fluff this year.
Oh, you’re a cat person — well you can too haz cuteness with the Kitten Bowl V! Full of adoptable rescues from 2017’s natural disasters.
