Victoria, BC- The Western Hockey League today announced that Victoria Royals’ forward Tyler Soy has been named the WHL On The Run Player of the Week.
Through four games this past week, Soy tallied 12 points (3g-9a). The Anaheim Ducks prospect opened the week with a goal and four assists in two games against the Tri-City Americans. Soy followed that performance with three points (1g-2a) on Friday vs. the Spokane Chiefs and one goal and three assists against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday. Soy, who has registered 13 points (4g-9a) in five contests, currently ranks with the second-highest points per game in the WHL at 2.60.
This is the third time the Cloverdale, BC native has been named WHL Player of the Week. Soy also earned Player of the Week honours in 2015-16 and 2016-17. This is the eighth time that a Royals’ player has been named WHL Player of the Week after Alex Forsberg (2015-16), Brandon Magee (2014-15), Travis Brown (2014-15), Joe Hicketts (2014-15) and Alex Gogolev (2012-2013).
Soy, who recently returned to the club after he attended the Anaheim Ducks (NHL) and San Diego Gulls (AHL) training camps, is in his fifth season with the Royals and has recorded 119 goals and 129 assists for 248 points over 262 regular season games.
Victoria will continue their season long seven-game road trip on Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The game is slated to start at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time at Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB.
