The Victoria Royals dropped the visiting Tri City Americans 8-2 Tuesday night, earning the clubs franchise best 7th straight win to start the season.
The Royals scored 3 times in the first and then opened things up with a 4 goal second period.
Matthew Phillips led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists for a four point night. Regan Nagy struck twice, with singles coming from Jared Legien who added an assist, Tyler Soy who had a 3 point night, Ryan Peckford and Dino Kambeitz. Erik Florchuk added a pair of assists.
Victoria outshot Tri City 37-26.
Griffen Outhouse earned the win stopping 18 of 20, sharing duties with Dean McNabb (6 for 6). Patrick Dea suffered the loss stopping 18 of 25. Beck Warm played the third and only allowed 1 goal on 12 shots.
The Royals were 2 for 7 on the power play, while the Americans went 2 for 3.
Tri City got their goals from local products Dylan Coghlan (Nanaimo) and Jordan Topping (Salt Spring Island).
The Americans slip to 3-4 on the season, were without Calgary Flames first round defenseman Juuso Valimaki.
Tri City overage forward Maxwell James was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for a check to the head of rookie Tarun Fizer in the third period when the score was 7-2.
The two game set concludes Wednesday night at 7pm.
Quick Start – The Royals opened the game’s scoring early tonight as Ryan Peckford tallied the first marker just 10 second in. Peckford’s goal is one second shy of the franchise record of nine seconds most recently set by alumnus Taylor Crunk in 2014-15.
