ROYALS ADD DWAYNE ROLOSON TO COACHING STAFF
Victoria hires former NHL netminder.
Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that Dwayne Roloson has joined the team’s coaching staff as a consulting coach.
A product of Simcoe, ON, Roloson spent the 2016-17 season as an assistant coach for both the Shawnigan Lake School Midget Varsity and Bantam Prep teams of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.
“We are very happy to have Dwayne join our group,” President and General Manager Cameron Hope said. “His wealth of experience as both a player and a coach is valuable to our staff and our players.”
Prior to his time with Shawnigan Lake, Roloson served as a goaltending consultant for the Anaheim Ducks for parts of three seasons (2013-16). In 2016, he coached the Ducks’ John Gibson and Frederik Andersen to the NHL’s William M. Jennings award, which is awarded annually to the goalie tandem that allows the least amount of goals in the league.
The 47-year-old played 14 years in the NHL with six different clubs (Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning). Roloson played in a total of 606 regular season games along with an additional 50 post-season contests. Roloson was named an NHL All-Star during the 2003-04 campaign and finished the year with a league best 0.933 save percentage.
Roloson represented his country on three separate occasions (1995, 2007, 2009) at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships. The netminder earned a gold medal in 2007, a silver medal in 2009 and a bronze medal in the 1995 tournament.
