The 18th annual Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival is underway!
Musicians from all over the world are taking the stage at Ship Point and a few other night stage locations.
One of those bands is The Black Seeds out of New Zealand. The Black Seeds their a fusion of Reggae, Roots. Soul and Dub.
Here’s their newest track!
I called up Barnaby Wier of The Black Seeds and we had a chat about what has them returning to the festival, what’s coming up for the band and New Zealand Slang words.
The Black Seeds are performing at Sugar night club tomorrow (Friday) along with Tonye, Jon Middleton and Rebel Selector
A band coming from Long Beach, California is Perro Bravo. You may be familiar with vocalist Miguel (Mike Happoldt) founder of Skunk Records working on Sublime’s first two records and at one point playing in the band.
Perro Bravo’s a trio of long time friends and long time musicians with no limit on style/sound; ska, punk, reggae, surfer-rock, dub they play it all.
When I called up Miguel he was on a fishing adventure with his girl and her kid, we chat about his time working with Bradley Nowell (Sublime) and their styles/influences, what ‘Perro Bravo’ came from, what they’re up to and their DIY approach when starting up the band.
Don’t miss Perro Bravo as they play this Saturday, June 17th at Ship Point!
