Tyler Soy scored twice as the visiting Victoria Royals edged the Everett Silvertips 4-3 Saturday night, tying the best of seven playoff series at a game a piece.
“We did everything we talked about and wanted to do…credit the leadership, I thought they did a really good job to make sure the group was dialled in…” said Royals Head Coach Dave Lowry.
The Silvertips scored first and went up 2-1 in the first minute of the middle frame with the man advantage, but Soy notched his first of the night less than a minute later to tie the game at 2.
Six minutes later Soy converted on a pass from Dante Hannoun on the power play to give the Royals their first lead 3-2.
Everett tied it at 3-3 in the third on a goal by Brandson Hein, before Vladimir Bobylev scored the winner with 5 minutes left.
“You get two huge blocks and players sacrificing – doing whatever it takes to win.” said Lowry on his clubs efforts late, to preserve the win.
Both clubs were 2 for 3 on the power play.
“Just credit our guys for going out and executing…a lot of urgency.” Added Lowry on the man advantage coming through.
Victoria out shot Everett 30-21 with Griffen Outhouse earning the win, and Carter Hart suffering the loss.
“We knew that at some point we’d have to come here and win a hockey game,” said Lowry about earning the split,
“What we’ve done now is we’ve taken home ice advantage, we have to make sure we don’t relinquish it.”
Matthew Phillips added a single for the Royals, as Jack Walker and Dante Hannoun chipped in with a pair of helpers each.
Walker passed Brandon Magee to set both the franchise record for playoff assists (18) and points (31), while Soy set the franchise record for most playoff goals with 14, also passing Magee and Walker’s 13.
Patrik Bajkov had a goal and assist for the Silvertips, while Dominic Zwerger had 2 assists. Matt Fonteyne had a single.
Victoria snapped a winless in 8 stretch dating back in to the regular season, and 5 straight against Everett.
