Everett clinched the US Division, and the West, while Victoria takes the final Wild Card spot.
“I think the big thing is, we come in as underdogs…” said Royals Head Coach Dave Lowry.
The Royals wrapped up the regular season with a home and with the Silvertips, with Everett sweeping the two game set by scores of 4-2 Friday and 5-2 on Saturday.
“The last couple games you could take some lessons out of it,” commented Lowry.
The Silvertips got goals from 5 different skaters, while their power play went 3 for 6 on Saturday night in Everett. Victoria was 0 for 5.
“I thought we had a really good first period despite being down 3-0. We did a lot of really good things, learn from it, understand that discipline is going to be a key component – if we do that, we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
Everett was up 5-0 going into the third, before Victoria scored the final two goals of the game on markers by Vladimir Bobylev and Ethan Price.
Carter Hart made 25 saves for the win, while Dylan Myskiw stopped 28 of 33 in the defeat.
Victoria is now winless in 7, heading into the post season (0-6-1-0).
The Royals were missing four regulars with forwards Regan Nagy and Ryan Peckford and defenseman Ralph Jarratt and Chaz Reddekopp.
There were 3 fights in the game with Marsel Ibragimov dropping the mitts with Aaron Irving, Spencer Gerth scrapped Brian King, and Ryan Gagnon in quick dust up with Keith Anderson.
“I like the emotional level of our game, I’m not going to ask our guys not to do it. We have to understand that you can’t take penalties after the whistle if you’re not trading, and everything balanced.” Mentioned Lowry.
Everett took the season series, with Victoria holding a record of (0-3-1-0).
It’ll be the first time the two clubs will meet in the post season, beginning in Everett Friday and Saturday, before shifting back for games 3 & 4 March 28th and 29th in Victoria.
