The Victoria Royals built up a 3-0 first period lead en route to a 4-1 win over the visiting Calgary Hitmen Saturday night, to win their 4th in a row.
“I think we got away with one tonight…” said Royals Head Coach Dave Lowry,
“Wasn’t one of our smartest games, made too many poor decisions with the puck and fortunate that we were good early, and able to jump out with the lead.”
Jack Walker and Dante Hannoun had a goal and assist each, while Carter Folk and Chaz Reddekopp (shorthanded) scored singles.
“We end up winning the special teams games with a shorty, those are momentum changers, and for us it allowed us to get going.” Commented Lowry on Reddekopp’s game opening goal.
Griffen Outhouse made 30 saves for his league leading 29th victory, earning 3rd star hounours.
“He made a lot of really great saves, we shouldn’t have to rely on him to make those saves – especially this time of year,” said Lowry,
“We have start to really have an understanding that we have to tighten it down, buckle it down if we want to have success.”
Jake Kryski broke the shut out bid with 2:33 left in the third with the goaltender pulled.
Trevor Martin started for Calgary, but was relieved by Kyle Dumba after allowing 3 goals on 8 Victoria shots. Dumba stopped all 17 he faced.
Both clubs were 0 for 3 on the power play.
The Royals take both games in the season series after a 7-2 road win in January.
Victoria remains tied with Kelowna for 3rd in the BC Division, 5 back of Kamloops who also won Saturday.
With a helper on Reddekopp’s goal, Soy extended his point streak to 9 games (7g-11a) 18pts. Hannoun pushed his streak to 4 games, (3g-4a) 7pts, and Reddekopp 3 games, (1g-4a) 5pts. Vladimir Bobylev has 5 assists over his last 4 games.
Victoria kicks off 4 games in 5 nights with a pair against Seattle Tuesday and Wednesday.
