The Victoria Royals defeated the Vancouver Giants 3-1 Friday night in Langley.
“I liked our start,” said Head Coach Dave Lowry,
The Royals led 2-0 after 20 minutes, and 3-0 after 40, to take the first of three straight against the Giants in 3 nights.
“I thought we had a great 40 minutes, we executed, did a lot of really good things, created a lot of opportunities. In the 3rd period we kind of got away from it a bit, but give (the Giants) credit they continued to play right to the end.” Added Lowry.
Victoria out shot Vancouver 28-15 after 2 periods, and 31-22 overall.
The Royals got goals from Jack Walker on a rebound, Scott Walford sniping top corner on a power play, and Ethan Price converting on a 2 on 0 breakaway from a feed from Tyler Soy.
Tyler Popowich scored the lone goal for the Giants less than a minute into the third.
Royals netminder Griffen Outhouse earned his 27th win, tied for the WHL lead, while setting the franchise record for most consecutive starts at 22, surpassing Chilliwack Bruins Lucas Gore.
“It’s cool to have the opportunity, and am happy that my coaches trust me enough to play me that much – it’s an honour…” said Outhouse.
Ryan Kubic allowed 3 goals on 31 attempts, as Vancouver falls to winless in 3 (0-2-0-1), and drop to 13 points out of the final Wild Card spot.
Victoria pulls into a 3rd place tie with Kelowna in the BC Division, however the Rockets have a game in hand.
The Royals lead the season series with 3 wins and an overtime loss, and will meet Saturday at 7pm in Victoria, followed by a 5pm start Sunday, also on the Island.
