Tyler Sandhu had 2 goals and 2 assists on a four point night to pace the Tri City Americans past the visiting Victoria Royals 4-3 Saturday evening.
The Americans scored 3 times on the power play on 5 chances, including a pair by Morgan Geekie. The Royals went 0 for 4.
“We lost the special teams game…” said Head Coach Dave Lowry,
“I can’t fault the effort of our guys, I thought we played extremely hard…we had a lot of emotion in the game, and that’s the way we’re going to have to play to be successful…”
Jack Walker brought the Royals to within a goal with 20 seconds left, but ultimately fell short and wrapped up their 5 game in 9 night road trip collecting 5 of a possible 10 points with a record of 2-2-1-0.
Victoria earned their wins in Prince George, Spokane, and picked up a point in an overtime loss in Portland Friday.
Saturday, Tri City netminder Rylan Parenteau earned the win with 29 saves on 32 shots, while Griffen Outhouse stopped 30 of 34 in the loss.
Sandhu set the franchise record for fastest Teddy Bear Toss goal, just :36 seconds into the opening frame.
Victoria overcame a 2-0 first period deficit to tie the game at 2-2 after Matthew Phillips scored on a penalty shot in the first, and Regan Nagy converted for his 3 goal in as many games in the second period.
Geekie restored the lead with the man advantage going into the third, Sandhu bumped the lead to 4-2 in the third on the power play 4-2 before Walker made it close.
Walker had a goal and assist for a two point night.
Phillips goal puts him into a tie for 2nd in overall in the WHL with 23 markers.
The Royals concede the season series with a record of 1-2-1-0.
Victoria returns home to face Portland for back to back games Tuesday and Wednesday.
