“I think the guys did a good job of letting me see pucks so the guys paid the price out there, so I give all the praise to them.” said the 18 year old netminder who’s pegged as the starter this year.
“That’s what the expectation is,” said Head Coach Dave Lowry on Outhouse being looking sharp in exhibition,
“He’s no different than anybody else. If he wants to play and he wants to be in the net, he’s going to have to prove to us that he’s worthy of it.”
Gunnar Wegleitner and Jack Walker scored in the shoot out, while Outhouse stopped both James Malm and Ty Ronning.
Malm scored early in the first for the Giants, while Royals Ethan Price tied it up for the home squad in the second.
“A playoff mentality out there…just a physical, all around game.” Said the 19 year old Price who had 11 goals in 70 games last season.
“Everyone worked hard this summer, and I think it shows on the ice. Battling in the corners and our stronger…most of our team is bigger, stronger, faster.”
“I think we have to really start concentrating on how we’re going to play to be successful,” said Lowry,
“It’s hard, and it’s work…I thought at times tonight we didn’t play the way we’re going to have to play.”
Neither club struck with the man advantage, Victoria was 0 for 5, and Vancouver 0 for 8 – with both teams enjoying 5 on 3 chances late in regulation.
The Royals improve to 3-1 in pre season play, and will head to Ladner to face the same Giants Sunday afternoon at 3pm, before wrapping up the exhibition at the Langley Events Centre Saturday September 17th at 3pm.
Victoria kicks off the regular season at home with a pair of back to back games against Prince George Sept 23rd and 24th.
