Today on the Afternoon Zone;
well there’s a big update in the Boaty McBoatface saga. As you probably remember from all types of media everywhere – the internet got a hold of this scientific “name our research vessel!” poll that was going on. They ran with voting for the name “Boaty McBoatface”. Well,
That boat’s not going to be called Boaty McBoatface. SAD.
It’s going to be named the RRS Sir David Attenborough. OK.
A high-tech remotely operated undersea vehicle onboard WILL be named Boaty McBoatface. HOORAY. Go, Boaty!!
Here’s a tweet i read from a Tofino Zoner;
“There was a glitch and the tsunami alarms went off this afternoon. Tourists were sprinting off the beaches. LOL”
LOL indeed! According to the CBC;
“Newsrooms across the province, were sent an emergency alert at 1:50 p.m. PT on Friday saying a tsunami warning had been issued for much of the province’s coastline, from as far north as Kitimat all the way south to Victoria.
But the message was sent in error by Emergency Management BC.
“Maintenance work was being undertaken on the BC ERMS warning system and the recent message alerting B.C. to a Tsunami Threat was sent in error,” said an email that arrived in newsrooms a few minutes later.
“There is no threat to B.C. from a Tsunami at this time.””
Whenever i’m in Tofino just seeing those sirens on the beach is enough to make me nervous about tsunamis.
Glad it was just a false alarm, and as another Zoner John texted “Shout out to the Canadian Geological Survey for the free cardio at tofino area beaches today!”
